Special Rule
Accursed Reliquary:
  • Condition: friendly Necromantic Undead units ≤ this model’s Command range
  • Result: Movement and Initiative characteristics +1
Blasphemous Tome:
  • Restriction: Aura, from each bearer of this special rule
  • Select: Wizards of either side inside the Command range
  • Result:
  • Casting roll: +1 modifier
  • Miscast: 2 rolls on the Miscast table, with both outcomes applied
Close Order:

Such a unit is able to form up in Close Order.

Dark Vitality:
  • Restriction: any model with this rule
  • Result:
  • Every model with this rule ignores the death of the army's Master of the Dead
  • They and their mounts may march normally, unless joined to a unit without this rule
  • A Vampire Count or Vampire Thrall Wizard with this rule suffers no penalty for armour or for a shield; IE: Cast and Dispel as Normal
First Charge:
  • Restriction: unit with First Charge
  • Limits: 1× per battle, on its opening charge
  • Result:
  • Disrupted: the charge target, expiring when the Combat phase of the same turn finishes
  • Only applies if the charging unit touches that target (checked once)
Fly:
  • Condition: not following up or pursuing
  • Result: the model may fly (optional), using the 'Fly Movement' characteristic given in brackets (X)
  • Moves like a ground model (charging, marching, manoeuvring), but sweep above anything on the table (models, units, scenery) at no penalty
  • May march ≤8" from an enemy unit with no Leadership test
  • May finish in terrain and suffers its effects; may not finish on top of an impassable feature or of a unit, nor ≤1" from an enemy unit
  • A flying model starts and finishes all its movement on the ground
  • A character with Fly cannot join a unit lacking it, nor the reverse
Impact Hits:
  • Restriction: charging model that moved 3"+, touching the enemy base
  • Result: causes the number of Impact Hits given in brackets (often dice-determined)
  • Resolving Impact Hits: applied to the charged unit when its combat is picked, at Step 1.1 of the Choose Combat & Fight sub-phase, ahead of challenges
  • Automatic hits at the attacker's unmodified Strength
Large Target:
  • Restriction: Large Target (Large Targets)
  • Result:
  • Partial and full cover give it no benefit
  • Line of sight to and from it passes across another unit, unless that unit is also a Large Target
  • Shooting unit gets 1 additional rank firing at it
Necromantic Undead:
  • Restriction: a character with it cannot join units without it, and vice versa
  • Result:
  • Models count as ‘Undead’
  • No march, unless using Fly (X) to move
  • They also gain Fear, Immune to Psychology, Unbreakable and Unstable
Random Attacks:
  • Restriction: model with Random Attacks
  • Result: no standard Attacks characteristic; a dice expression stands in (e.g. D3+1)
  • Each combat attack action: roll the dice for the attack count, then roll To Hit as usual
  • Fighting rank with 2+ such models: one roll per model, except where stated otherwise
Regeneration:
  • Restriction: model with Regeneration (X+), where X+ is its Regeneration value
  • Timing: immediately after a Wound is lost, ahead of removing models at 0 Wounds
  • Result: a "Regeneration save" roll of 1D6 (optional): on X+ the Wound comes back, but still counts toward the combat result
  • Effects altering armour values do not touch the Regeneration value, unless stated otherwise.
Wailing Dirge (X):
  • Restriction: bearers of this special rule
  • Limits: target Leadership cannot be brought under 2
  • Select: enemy unit at ≤8”
  • Result: may make a ‘Wailing Dirge’ attack, a Shooting attack with Magical Attacks
  • Skips to hit and to wound; the target takes a Leadership test at −X to its Leadership characteristic (X = value in brackets)
  • Failed test: target takes wounds equal to the failure margin; no armour or Regeneration saves, Ward saves work normally
  • Lone character targets: allowed, normal Lone character targeting rules ignored
  • Engaged in combat in the Shooting phase: may pick a unit touching its base, even when this model made a charge this turn
