Description: This game is divided into three main sections, performed in order.
1 - Battle Preparations. Before a game, certain preparations are needed. The players need to put together their armies, prepare the Battlefield, select victory conditions and deploy their armies onto the Battlefield.
2 - Game Turns. This is a turn-based game, with standard games comprising six Game Turns. Each Game Turn is further divided into two Player Turns, wherein each player takes turns controlling their respective armies in a series of Phases which are performed in the following sequence:
• Charge Phase
• Movement Phase
• Magic Phase
• Shooting Phase
• Rally Phase
• Melee Phase
3 - After the Game. After both players have played six Player Turns, it is time to tally up the Victory Points and check who managed to win the Primary and Secondary Objectives to see who is the winner of the Game.
Greeeetings! I am Klepa, one hundred percent honest and reliable merchant goblin. This is my healthful and fine-smelling accomplice – ah – pet! my charming pet: Fleabag. For smallest of prices, and promise not to talk to mean old city guards, we can be your guides here. Klepa will share all his, er, lawfully ack-quee-zis-shined knowledge about the wide world of the Ninth Age! Such a pleasure to meet a new mark – I mean customer! Customer and friend! Welcome
Active & Reactive Player
The Active Player is the one currently taking their Player Turn, and the Reactive Player is the one whose Player Turn is not currently happening.
Friendly and Enemy
The terms friendly and enemy are used to distinguish between units that belong to the same player (friendly units) and units controlled by opposing players (enemy units).
Your First Game
Is this your first game? Let’s get you started. First, prepare your battlefield: a large flat surface with model terrain on – a pile of books can be a hill, a mug can be a rock, a mouse pad can be a lake, and so on. Then, challenge a friend to a game where you both command your own miniature army.
For a trial run without the commitment of time and resources, we offer downloadable paper cutouts on the T9A website (address provided at the beginning of this book).
