Description: The goal of a Round of Combat is to annihilate or rout the enemy, and the latter is done through winning the Round of Combat, by having your units accumulate a higher total “Combat Score” than the opponent's units.
Combat Score is counted at two steps:
• First in step 1 of the Round of Combat sequence (before making any attacks), where static Combat Score bonuses are added up and marked down.
• After all attacks have been made, at step 4 of the Round of Combat sequence, Combat Score bonuses that are related to the amount of casualties caused are added to get the final Combat Score.
The static Combat Score bonuses are:
• Charge: +1
Each side with one or more Charging models adds +1 to their Combat Score.
• Fighting in Flanks or Rear: +2 / each Flank or Rear
If you have units fighting the enemy in their Flank or Rear, add +2 to your Combat for each different Flank or Rear Facing of each enemy unit you have units engaged in.
• Rank Bonus: +1 / Proper Rank (up to +4)
Each side adds to their side's Combat Score the number of Proper Ranks of the unit on their side with the most Proper Ranks, up to a maximum of +4. (See Models and Units in the Definitions and Terminology chapter for definition of Proper Rank)
• Standard Bearer: +1 / Standard Bearer
Add +1 to your Combat Score for each unit with a Standard Bearer engaged in the Combat.
• Battle Standard Bearer: +1
Add +1 to your Combat Score if the Battle Standard Bearer is engaged in the Combat.
•
Since static Combat Score requires the number of Proper Ranks to be established, it is often relevant to assess if any unit is Surrounded. See section Combat Formations below for details.
Combats can be messy and time-consuming to resolve. To simplify the process, we recommend placing special dice or markers next to the units to track the static Combat Score.
