Modifiers

(Rule)
Description: Modifiers can affect the values of Characteristics, dice rolls, or other numerical values in the game. They can set values, add or subtract from them, multiply or divide them, and are applied in the following order.

  • A Value Set to a Fixed Number: When a value or roll is set to a specific number, replace the original value or roll with that number. When a value is "set to at least a number" do not set the value if it would result in a reduction to the value.

  • Multiplication and Division: Values or rolls can be modified by multiplication or division.

  • Addition and Subtraction: Values or rolls can be modified by addition or subtraction.

  • If a limit is defined in the rule, apply the operation after operations without limits, and only up to the limit. For example if a model with Att 3 is under the effect +2, to a maximum of Att 4, the resulting Att of the model will be 4.

  • You can modify difficulties (things in the form of X+) by addition or subtraction. To work out how a modifier applies to a difficulty of X+ we use the following formula: [difficulty score] - [modifier] = new difficulty score. For example an attack wounding on 4+ with a +1 to wound modifier, now wounds on 3+.

  • Always and Never: Rolls always or never succeeding or failing on certain results, and Characteristics always or never set to a certain value or range of values.

  • Restrictions: After applying all modifications, there are certain limits for specific Characteristics:

  • Use only whole numbers. Round any fractions up.

  • No Characteristics can be below 0 , not even temporarily. Set values below 0 to 0.

  • Armour can never be higher than 6, not even temporary.

  • Agility and Courage can never be higher than 10, not even temporary.

  • A Melee Attack always hits on a natural roll of ‘6’.

When multiple modifiers have the same priority step, apply them in the order that results in the lowest value or success chance.
