Line of Sight

(Rule)
Description: A model can draw Line of Sight to its target (a point, a model, or a Unit Boundary) if you can draw a line in the model's Front Arc to the target without crossing Line of Sight-blocking obstructions:

  • Opaque Terrain (see Terrain section), or

  • Models from another unit with a Height that is equal or greater than to both the model and the target's Height.

A model that is not in the front rank of a unit, instead draws its Line of Sight from a point on the Front Facing of its unit that is directly in front of it (typically from the Front Facing from a model directly in front of it).

All of the following conditions must be fulfilled:

  • The line must be a straight line with its starting point in the model’s Front Facing.

  • The line can only deviate at most 45 degrees from the straight forward direction of the model. This means that the line cannot move outside the model’s own Front Arc.

  • Models never block Line of Sight to or from other models within the same unit.

  • The line between the model and the target does not cross over any of the following obstructions:

  • Opaque, or

  • Bases of other models that have an equal or bigger Height than both the model and the target, or

  • A Unit Boundary that has an equal or bigger Height than both the model and the target.

A unit is considered to have Line of Sight to a target of at least one model in the unit can draw Line of Sight to it. For the purpose of drawing Line of Sight to or from a point on the Battlefield, that point is considered to be of Height 0.

Drawing Line of Sight. The area within which the single model unit D can draw Line of Sight is marked.

  • Unit B is within Line of Sight.

  • Unit A is within Line of Sight as unit D can draw Line of Sight to the Unit Boundary of unit A, even though that part of A’s Unit Boundary is not occupied by any models.

  • Unit C is not within Line of Sight as the Impassable Terrain Feature is Opaque and therefore blocks Line of Sight from unit D to unit C.
