Freeze Unit Boundaries

(Rule)
Description: When resolving a Round of Combat, the Unit Boundaries of the involved units are not updated. They retain their sizes and positions; furthermore, the placement of models in those units are also not changed (e.g. to ensure viable formation when casualties are suffered.

When calculating the number of ranks, files, or Proper Ranks a unit has (this is relevant e.g. for Steady or Solid, and when attacked by an Area Attack), empty gaps in the unit formation (e.g. due to a dead Attachable Model) are considered to be filled in by models from back ranks, in the same way you would normally fill empty gaps (see Definitions and Terminology for details). Note that models are not physically moved at this stage.

Apply this until just before Broken units perform their Flee Move.

Unit Boundaries and model's position are frozen in place in order to prevent the need to do any finicky movement and repositions in messy situations, at a time where players should be focusing on rolling their attacks.

Always best to get the jump on the fuzz, not other way round. Need to be one step ahead in this game. Cannot just wait for them to get you – gotta seize the nishitive, or you'll land yourself in the dungeons, and that in't no fun at all. That's what Klepa's old witch-gaffa taught him, and that's what Klepa would tell you if he weren't upstanding honest pervayer of not-stolen goods.
